"Gender discrimination against beavers is over." A sculpture of a beaver couple installed near Bobruisk Fortress
A new thematic sculpture – a beaver couple – has appeared in Bobruisk Fortress. It was installed near the powder magazine on Karla Opermana Street, 15, next to the "Sputnik" shop. The sculpture depicts a beaver in a 19th-century military uniform alongside his companion, a female beaver, in festive attire, writes Bobr.by.

Leonid Kovalenko, the author of the idea, noted that in the Year of the Belarusian Woman, Bobruisk saw the first female image of the city's mascot – a beaver, as well as the first sculpture depicting a beaver family couple. According to him, this symbolically "ended gender discrimination" among beaver sculptures.

The new beavers were installed by the private enterprise "XIX Century," which operates in the tourism sector. The patriotic part of the company's activities is actually carried out by a family team – a father and two sons. They are also involved in the restoration of the powder magazine, near which the sculpture now stands.

The installation of the new art object should draw attention to the fortress territory. Photos can already be taken with the sculpture, but its official opening is planned for next week. City leadership has been invited to the ceremony, and the military orchestra of the 147th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment will also perform.

A theatrical part is also expected: the "fortress commandant" from the 19th century will appear with ladies and a soldier of the imperial army. The image of the female beaver is inspired by the painting "An Unknown Woman" by Russian artist Ivan Kramskoy.

The powder magazine, near which the sculpture stands, recently began to be restored. Under the control of the Ministry of Culture, the walls and stone belt of the building were repaired. The next stage will be the restoration of the standing seam roof, which was present after the construction of the magazine.

According to Dmitry Kovalenko, one of the project participants, the restoration is not progressing as quickly as planned. However, the nearest event will be the creation of a photo zone near the powder magazine by May 9. They plan to exhibit two retro cars there – GAZ M-20 "Pobeda" and GAZ-12 ZIM.
