In Belarus, some alcoholic beverages are being removed from sale

Visitors to alcohol markets recently noticed messages in stores that starting from April 1st, the retail sale of malt beer from unfriendly countries would be suspended. This is due to a new legal requirement coming into force, writes Office Life.

What happened

Photos of announcements from "Sem Pyatnits" (Seven Fridays) retail chain stores appeared on social networks. They state that starting from April 1, 2026, the retail sale of malt beer from unfriendly countries will be suspended until it is marked with special control signs.

What does all this mean

As early as January 1, 2026, a government resolution "On the application of a special restrictive measure" was published. The document extends the ban on the import and sale in our country of certain goods from unfriendly countries for two years. For beer, there was a deferral until April 1, 2026, with the exception of goods from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Estonia, for which the ban on importing this beverage has been in effect since 2024.

Starting from April 1st, the ban will be extended to other states on the list of unfriendly countries. These countries, in particular, include Australia, EU states, Great Britain, and Northern Ireland.

According to legal requirements, all malt beer already imported into Belarus from these countries will not be confiscated. However, to sell the remaining stock, retailers must apply special labeling to the bottles. It cannot be sold without it. This requires time. Therefore, stores are warning their customers in advance.

What will happen next

Starting from April 1st, trade must suspend the sale of imported malt beer from unfriendly countries.

By April 7th, stores must conduct an inventory of their remaining stock and draw up a special inventory record, after which two copies of it must be submitted to the tax office at the place of registration within five working days.

By May 31st, special labeling must be applied to the remaining malt beer.

After that, the beer can be sold again. However, if it is packaged in open consumer packaging, it can be sold within 60 days from the date of the inventory.

Regarding further supplies of malt beer from unfriendly countries, its import into our country for sale falls under the ban. It will be in effect until 2027. However, the government may lift it earlier.
