US Demands South Africa Exit BRICS

The US administration is demanding that the Republic of South Africa withdraw from the BRICS organization, writes The Moscow Times. This was stated by US Ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell, citing President Donald Trump, who allegedly said: «I want South Africa to be a non-aligned country again. Non-alignment is not such a big request.»

According to Bozell, Washington informed the South African government of this almost a year ago but never received a response. The ambassador noted that South Africa's increasing cooperation with countries the US considers adversaries is causing concern and affecting investor confidence.

In addition to withdrawing from BRICS, the US demands a review of the expropriation law and the Black Economic Empowerment program, condemnation of the slogan «Kill the Boer», protection for white farmers, and withdrawal of the lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice regarding the «genocide» of Palestinians.

South Africa joined BRICS in 2011 and is now part of the organization along with Russia, China, Brazil, India, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. At the same time, the South African government seeks to maintain access to the American market under AGOA, which provides unrestricted access for thousands of African goods.

Earlier, Trump threatened to quickly put an end to BRICS if the bloc's countries tried to create a serious union or introduce a currency other than the dollar, and even promised to impose 100% tariffs on their products.
