A simple Belarusian surprised people by professing love for Lukashenka in Germany. But it turned out he wasn't so simple

During a street survey, a Russian-speaking blogger in Germany decided to talk to a truck driver from Brest. "Nasha Niva" found out who this Lukashenka supporter travelling through Germany really is. He turned out to be a former border guard.

Aliaksandr Agapau

Russian-speaking blogger Odinaev usually conducts surveys with representatives of various nationalities on the streets of Germany. His YouTube channel has more than 70,000 subscribers, and he has 107,000 followers on Instagram.

The blogger's next interlocutor was a Belarusian in a cowboy hat, who introduced himself as Aliaksandr from Brest. He claimed to have been working as a truck driver on shifts in Europe for three years.

When asked by the blogger about the difference between Germany and Belarus, the man responded with propaganda clichés. He spoke about the cleanliness of Belarusian streets and how Germans are supposedly more indifferent to life, unlike people from the former USSR.

Aliaksandr stated that he himself would never be able to settle in Germany because he loves Belarus very much. As proof of his patriotism, he sent greetings to Lukashenka.

The blogger asked Aliaksandr why the people of Belarus support Lukashenka: "The West says he's a dictator, but we know that 99% support him in Belarus."

And here's what the truck driver answered:

— That's what the Western government says, which doesn't like his point of view. It doesn't like our order. It doesn't like that everything works for us despite everything. Moreover, people — any people — in Belgium, France, Spain have a positive attitude [towards Lukashenka].

When asked what he saw in Germany that Belarus lacks, Aliaksandr said:

— Well, this cathedral could — haha — be assembled here. I like the architecture, the deep history. Because everything in my country was destroyed by war, and it was rebuilt anew. There were also wars here, of course, but the scale here is impressive. Incredible beauty.

The blogger asked Aliaksandr to say a few words in Belarusian — saying that he usually asks his interlocutors to speak a little in their native language.

The Belarusian smiled in response and declared that Russian is the native language for Belarusians. But he still managed to squeeze out: "Dear viewers, welcome to Germany!"

The video was published last year and has now gone viral again.

The hero of the video is Aliaksandr Agapau from Brest. He was formerly a border guard — he can be seen in the corresponding uniform in BelTA photos from last year.

In his hometown, Aliaksandr is also known as a rescue diver; for some time, he worked at rescue station No. 1 in Brest. But later, he started searching for lost items in water bodies on demand.

The media also wrote about him because the man accidentally found a veteran's medal in the river. Aliaksandr was looking for a wedding ring that someone had lost while swimming, and in the process, he also found a 1945 "For Courage" medal. The owner of the medal was found, and the lost item was returned to him.

Aliaksandr also appeared as an extra in the film "Hunting the Gauleiter" — he played one of the fascists who met Wilhelm Kube in Minsk.

An interview with Aliaksandr went viral on Threads. The comments were mostly mocking.

People are wondering why such an alleged patriot doesn't work in Belarus:

"Lukashenka is a wonderful president, that's why he's forced to be a migrant worker," "Everyone is envious, but I work in Germany. Strange," "Question: if everything is wonderful, why are you working in Germany? Why don't Americans, Englishmen go to work in Germany?", "He loves his homeland in words, but goes to the lords in decaying 'gayrope' to feed himself," "A Belarusian who is Russian, and in Europe on Polish documents. A patriot. Question: why are half of Belarusians in Europe, half in Russia, and Lukashenka is doing great?"
