Yemeni Houthis issue ultimatum to Trump: they threaten to close another key maritime strait
The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Houthi government in Yemen has threatened a complete closure of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. This ultimatum has been issued to US President Donald Trump in response to "policies that hinder peace." The statement comes amid escalating tensions in another key strait in the region — the Strait of Hormuz.

As reported by "Current Time" publication, Hussein al-Ezzi, Deputy Head of the Houthi government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made a harsh statement. According to him, if such a decision is made, then "all of humanity and jinn will be completely powerless to open it."
“Therefore, Trump — and the countries that indulge him — would do best to immediately put an end to policies that hinder peace, and show respect for the rights of our people and country,” al-Ezzi stated.
The Bab-el-Mandeb Strait connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is one of the world's most vital transport arteries. Approximately 12% of all global seaborne oil transport and 8% of the world's liquefied natural gas pass through it. The Iranian-backed group "Ansar Allah," better known as the Houthis, controls a significant part of Yemen, including the country's capital Sanaa, which gives it the ability to influence shipping in the strait.
This threat comes amid an escalation of tensions surrounding another strategic route — the Strait of Hormuz, through which more than 20% of global oil and LNG supplies pass. On April 17, after an agreement on a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was reached, Iran announced the opening of the strait. However, the very next day, Tehran closed it again, explaining that the US had not lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports. On the same day, it became known that at least two merchant vessels were fired upon while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
