Doctor who studied under a targeted referral worked one and a half years out of five - and moved to Poland

The girl philosophically reflects on why a targeted referral won't force doctors to stay in Belarus: "Because a dog will always think about how to escape its chain."

Ksenia shares her adventures on TikTok.

She studied at Grodno State Medical University under a targeted referral. She says that even during her studies, many of her classmates were interested in how to move to another country. They discussed how and where to confirm a medical diploma.

Ksenia admits that at the time, she wasn't interested at all. "Oh my god, why do you need that information? Where are you going? Why do you need to go to Poland? Work in Belarus!" she recalls her position at that time.

The girl was generally satisfied — but only until it was time to move from Grodno to her first job. And she had to work in a small town near Gomel. To be fair, it was Ksenia's hometown (most likely, Rechytsa is being referred to). But she already wanted something more.

The doctor was given accommodation from her work:

— We hired cleaning services to wash everything because it was scary to go in there. I cried in the car the whole way there. My mom even told me: "Why are you dramatizing everything so much?"

Ksenia compares working under a referral to the life of a dog. A collar is put around its neck, it's chained, and they treat it like "you're not going anywhere."

Then Ksenia's friend decided to move to Europe with her husband. This time, the girl became interested in the issue of emigration. As a result, Ksenia's husband was the first to go to Poland — their relationship was long-distance for a year.

She herself was able to leave after working as a doctor for one and a half years — out of the required five. As a result, she had to pay the university 36,000 rubles. The difficulty was also that even after payment, the employer was not obligated to dismiss an employee who had studied under a targeted referral.

Ksenia registered at her husband's residence, who was registered in another city — and as a result, she finally resigned. In Poland, Ksenia is not working yet, as the family already has a small child.

The TikToker is aware that the situation for medical students has worsened: there is no opportunity to study for a fee, but the number of places for targeted students has increased.

Ksenia doesn't believe this will stop specialists from leaving Belarus:

— I'll tell you my psychology as a targeted student. I wanted to get rid of the chain as soon as possible. Maybe I even liked working as a doctor, but I still wanted to throw it off. One might say: "What didn't you like? They give you housing, they give you a salary, respect, a white coat..." A chained dog is unlikely to want to stay on that chain indefinitely.

Божа, дзіцятка, з аднаго ланцуга на іншы патрапіла. Трэба было сплочваць гэтыя грошы і ісці працаваць у іншую галіну проста ў Беларусі. Ніхто цябе ў той Польшчы не чакае.
