And at the same time — how often you should wash bath mats or shower mats.

What's better for hygiene — a shower or a bath? The Daily Mail turned for an answer to clinical microbiologist Primrose Freestone from the University of Leicester.
According to the scientist, a shower is a more effective way of cleansing. The main reason is that in a bath, the water does not change, and all microorganisms that were on the body are simply redistributed across different areas of the skin.
The continuous flow of water in a shower not only washes away dirt, sweat, and grease but also gently massages the skin.
Also, according to the expert, a morning shower helps to wake up, wash away sweat or bacteria that you might have picked up from bedding during sleep. This is especially useful if your bedding wasn't the freshest when you went to bed.
However, Freestone does not call for completely giving up baths, as they have their own health benefits. Hot water helps to relieve muscle tension, soothe the nervous system, and improve blood circulation.
To combine pleasure with benefit, experts advise listening to the experience of those who use a combined method: first take a bath for relaxation, and then definitely rinse off under the shower.
This approach allows you to gain maximum benefit for your mental state and at the same time wash away soap residues and microbes that might have remained on the skin.

Interestingly, partial cleansing from bacteria after a bath also occurs when drying with a towel, but another danger lurks here. Dr. Freestone warns that if you don't wash your towel regularly, entire colonies of bacteria will quickly form on it.
In addition, danger can also lurk in other items in the bathroom. For example, damp bath or shower mats easily accumulate bacteria and mold, especially if they don't dry out for a long time. Experts advise drying them thoroughly after use and washing them at a high temperature at least once a week.
