In May, Belarus's gold and foreign exchange reserves decreased by $228.6 million, amounting to $15.04 billion.
"The reduction in the volume of gold and foreign exchange reserves is associated with a decrease in the price of gold on international markets, as well as with payments on external obligations of the Government of the Republic of Belarus," the National Bank commented.
As of the end of 2024, gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to $9 billion, and for 2025 they grew by five and a half billion, totaling $14.4 billion by the end of 2025. As of March 1, 2026, they amounted to $16.4 billion, but in March they decreased by almost a billion due to the fall in the price of gold.
