Near bushes in a dacha or village, you might see flies like these. This is a predatory robber fly. It hunts other insects and does not harm plants in any way.

Robber flies regulate the number of pests in the garden and vegetable patch, reducing the population of aphids, leaf beetles, sawflies, codling moths, explains biologist Yulia Kondratenko in a Telegram channel.
These flies are harmless to humans, but it's best not to touch them with bare hands. Robber flies can pierce the skin in self-defense, and their bite is comparable to a bee or wasp sting.
