Ukraine plans to expand the mandate of the special representative for Belarus
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, during the "Question Hour to the Government" in the Verkhovna Rada on May 29, announced plans to expand the mandate of the special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

"We plan to expand the mandate, the powers of the appointed ambassador for special relations, responsible for the direction of Belarus or contacts with democratic forces. Therefore, we are currently discussing this. We have taken the first step towards institutionalization and a more systemic approach," said Andriy Sybiha.
The Minister added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in particular, will consult with people's deputies regarding which areas need to be additionally covered within the powers of the newly appointed ambassador.
"And we will definitely do this in the short term," he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to appoint an authorized representative for Belarus back in early January and noted the need to support Belarusian democratic forces.
On May 15, Yaroslav Charnahor, Director of the Program of Russian and Belarusian Studies at the Foreign Policy Council "Ukrainian Prism," Candidate of Historical Sciences, announced that he had been appointed ambassador-at-large for democratic transformations, interaction with democratic forces and national movements of unfriendly countries. He is now responsible for cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces.
