The European Union has announced an economic aid package of 50 million euros to Yerevan amid increasing pressure from Russia. This was reported by Reuters, citing European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Earlier, Moscow introduced a number of trade restrictions against Armenia, including a ban on the supply of fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, mineral water and other goods, and also threatened an "Ukraine scenario" for its course towards rapprochement with the EU. The President of the EC called such actions by the Russian Federation "economic coercion" and declared the unacceptability of such measures.

"By continuing restrictions on the export of Armenian goods, Moscow is weaponizing economic relations for political pressure. We are too familiar with this scenario. That is why Europe firmly supports Armenia. We are preparing an EU aid package," Reuters quoted von der Leyen as saying.

She noted that this decision was made after a conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in Armenia on June 7.
