Representative of a Belarusian Organization Excluded from the Consultative Council of NGOs of National Minorities of Latvia
Alena Lazarava, a representative of the "Union of Belarusians of Latvia," has been excluded from the Consultative Council of NGOs of National Minorities of Latvia. The participants of the meeting made this decision by voting. The reason was information received from the Latvian State Security Service, writes Delfi.lv.
According to the rules of the Consultative Council, organizations and their representatives must have an impeccable reputation, respect Latvia's national values and state language, and not be subject to international or national sanctions.
According to the security service, despite warnings about possible risks and recommendations to refrain from certain actions, Lazarava continued to visit the "aggressor state" and participate in events organized by its state institutions.
The Latvian authorities considered that, in the current geopolitical situation, such actions by a representative of the Consultative Council are not in Latvia's interests.
The country's Minister of Culture, Nauris Puntulis, stated that he trusts the assessments of the Latvian state security agencies. According to him, the information received indicates possible security threats. He deemed unacceptable the participation in the council's work of a person involved in events funded by the authorities of an aggressor state.
Puntulis also thanked other council members for their responsible attitude towards the received information and noted the importance of cooperation between authorities and non-governmental organizations.
The Consultative Council of Representatives of NGOs of National Minorities operates under the Ministry of Culture of Latvia. It is an advisory body and deals with issues of NGO participation in civil society development, ethnopolitics, protection of national minority rights, and preservation of their culture.
The Council can also request information from state bodies regarding the situation of national minorities in Latvia and political and legislative initiatives affecting their interests. The composition of the council is approved by the Minister of Culture, who simultaneously serves as its chairman.

Куча стран ЕС точно так же предоставляла свои базы или слали свои контингенты для нападения на Ирак, Ливию, Афганистан, лишь при нападении на Иран в основном воздержались, кроме Британии. Латвия участвовала в войнах в Афганисиане и Ираке,притом не пассивно путем предоставления территории,а посылала туда контингенты. И кто тут "государство-агрессор"?!
