“Smells Awful.” Brest Residents Massively Complain About Tap Water
For several weeks now, Brest residents have been bothered by a sharp unpleasant smell from tap water, which appeared after June's water supply interruptions. Specialists have explained what is happening, but it is not yet known when the problem will disappear, writes Tochka.by.

Complaints are coming from Vulka, Kavalyova, Uskhod, Paudniovy Haradok, and Paudniova-Zakhodni microdistricts. On social media, people are writing almost the same thing: the water is impossible to drink.
Here's how a Brest resident describes the situation on Threads:
«In Paudniovy, for three weeks, tap water has had the smell of a public toilet at the railway station. Drinking it is out of the question. After washing hands, a greasy film remains; after laundry, even conditioner doesn't mask the smell. Pets refuse to drink this water».
According to the woman, appeals to various authorities yielded no results.
«The answer is always the same: tests are normal, the water is clean at the outlet, drain the water – and everything will be fine. How much longer do we have to drain it? A month? Two? And who will pay for the water then?» — she wonders.
Other users share similar stories:
«Yes, simply terrible water. They probably have such standards that any water is normal. We are suffering greatly; the water smells terribly of iron. I'm worried it won't get better.»
«There was no such problem before. I spoke with the head of one of the houses where this problem exists and samples were taken. The samples are normal, but the water is getting worse.»
«There's nothing to say about water quality. On Skrypnikova, the water clogs a new filter in an hour of use. Plumbing is literally all clogged up the very next day after cleaning... It's just awful.»
«I thought I was the only one whose water smelled so bad! And laundry after washing with conditioner also smells bad. Uskhod, Leningradskaya.»
«In the center, after scheduled works, the water is simply disgusting. And not just the smell, but also debris. Are they planning to do anything about this at all?»
After a wave of complaints, the situation was commented on by «Brestvodokanal». The enterprise reported that scheduled technological works are underway at the «Mukhavetski» water intake. They attribute the change in the smell and taste of water in several city microdistricts to this.
At the same time, the water utility emphasized that water quality is under constant control. According to laboratory research data, it fully complies with hygienic standards for organoleptic, physico-chemical, and microbiological parameters.
The enterprise did not specify when the works would be completed and the unpleasant smell would disappear.
