A farewell ceremony was held in Warsaw for writer Sviatlana Kurs, who passed away at the age of 54. Her loved ones shared their memories of the writer during the ceremony, writes "Belsat".

Her son, Felix, recounted that his mother, during her battle with illness, strived to appear strong, never admitting weakness. As soon as she was discharged from the hospital, she immediately planned another joint trip — to Podlachia.

"And suddenly, a person who had just been lying in bed and couldn't do anything, was cycling with me around Podlachia. My mom fought for life until the very end," said the writer's son.

"I think that throughout her life, my mom brought peace to many people. She still gives me that peace," Felix noted.

He saw his mother in the hospital the day before her death, and it seemed to him that everything was getting better — his mother was "just as smart, just as kind, just as she always was."

"We hugged for a long time. I didn't know I was saying goodbye to her for the last time. She lived beautifully and died beautifully. And it's worth remembering that we have her and she will remain, that death and illness will never take away from us," Felix concluded.

Sviatlana's husband, Siarhei Labandzieuski, recounted how they first met in the early 1990s, when they both worked at state radio. Later came Radio 101, Euroradio.

"She had a very complex character. I know this better than anyone. When she flared up, it was almost an explosion. She could be super tough, rigid, and she could be gentle and tender. In the last year, while she was sick, she saw a lot that we don't see. This whole world where people get sick, suffer. She talked about it in the hospital before she died. She said she was writing a book about patients, about the staff, about the relationships in these clinics," said the writer's husband.

According to Siarhei, his wife clung to life until the very end, making purchases for the future. The couple even agreed to buy a house in Podlachia for their old age.

"She believed until the very end that she would live. <…> All we have left is her memory. Thank you to everyone who came, who wanted to come say goodbye and couldn't, even those who simply didn't intend to but remembered. Thank you all. We will meet there, together with Sviatlana," Siarhei Labandzieuski addressed those present.

Siarhei also thanked everyone who supported their family, including financially, throughout Sviatlana Kurs's illness.

By family decision, Sviatlana Kurs's ashes will be buried in Belarus.
