On the afternoon of August 14, massive power outages occurred simultaneously in four Central Asian countries — Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Among other things, the performance by American rapper Kanye West scheduled for that day in Almaty was canceled due to electricity problems.

The show was supposed to take place at the Central Stadium in Almaty, but the organizers decided at the last moment to postpone it to August 15, even though the audience had already gathered. The official reason given, however, was not only the blackout but also bad weather.
It turned out that the cause of the blackout in four Central Asian countries was the shutdown of two hydro-generators at the Toktogul HPP in Kyrgyzstan, reported the press service of the system operator of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan, JSC "KEGOC".
