Belarusian tried to secretly import an expensive watch from Lithuania, but made one mistake
A resident of the Minsk region tried to secretly smuggle an expensive Tissot watch from Lithuania into Belarus, but an empty box gave him away, writes BelTA.
In July 2026, a man entered Belarus from Lithuania by car. During customs control, officers noticed a new empty Tissot watch box and its charger. To the customs officers' verbal question, the man stated that he was not transporting goods that are prohibited, restricted, or subject to declaration.
However, during a personal search, customs officers found a new Tissot T-Touch Connect wristwatch in his underwear.
The cost of the watch was 1095 euros. According to customs rules, when importing goods into Belarus by land transport or on foot for personal use without a declaration, goods worth no more than 500 euros and weighing up to 25 kg can be imported. Since the value of the watch exceeded the established limit, it had to be declared.
The court found the man guilty of moving goods across the customs border of the EAEU that are subject to declaration, concealing them from customs control. He was fined 20 basic units, and the watch was confiscated in favor of the state.
The court decision has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
