In the USA, teenagers hung upside down for almost half an hour on a broken amusement ride
Two teenage girls received $275,000 in compensation after hanging upside down for about 25 minutes during an amusement ride malfunction in Portland, USA, writes Bild.
The incident occurred on June 14, 2024, at Oaks Amusement Park. The AtmosFEAR ride unexpectedly stopped in an inverted position. At that moment, 28 people were on it.
The girls were 13 and 14 years old at the time. In court, they testified that they experienced difficulty breathing and feared that the restraints might open, causing them to fall from a height of approximately 30 meters. One of the victims also mentioned seeing tears on the faces of other ride passengers, and some people started to vomit.
According to American media reports, the park's employees did not have a ready action plan for such an emergency. They first had to call for instructions and then wait for firefighters and special equipment to arrive.
After the incident, the girls complained of nightmares and sleep problems. The exact cause of the ride's malfunction has not yet been determined. However, it has now been equipped with a system that automatically returns the structure to its initial position in case of a breakdown.
