In Germany, two more sabotage attempts were recorded at energy infrastructure facilities. In Saxony, near the Graustein and Bärwalde substations, 11 improvised explosive and incendiary devices were found: four near the first substation and seven near the second, writes Bild.
After the discovery, police inspected the high-voltage lines to check for other dangerous objects nearby. Law enforcement confirmed the operation but did not disclose its details.
These incidents occurred against the backdrop of a series of other incidents at energy facilities in Germany. On September 4, suspicious items with timers were found near high-voltage lines in Dormagen, and police conducted a check at a substation in Ganderkesee.
Previously, on September 1, there was an attack on the Preilack substation near the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg. An incident also occurred near Bergheim, near Cologne, where a short circuit led to the shutdown of several power units with a total capacity of about 4200 MW. On September 2, explosive devices were found near another substation in Brandenburg.
German authorities are investigating this series of incidents also against the backdrop of accusations against Russia of organizing sabotage at Leipzig/Halle Airport. According to German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, the perpetrators of that attack acted on behalf of Russian state structures.
