State Television Revealed the Scale of Political Repressions in Gomel Now
The latest episode of the propaganda talk show "Black and White" by Gomel regional television was recorded with Pavel Chirikov, Deputy Prosecutor of Gomel, and dedicated to the topic of "extremism" — a concept the current authorities use to cover up political repressions, writes "Flagstock".
The real scale of repressions in Belarus is hidden — recently, state sources have not disclosed statistics on this matter. However, as the publication noted, one figure was mentioned in the program: since the beginning of 2026, "more than fifty extremist-oriented crimes have been recorded" in Gomel alone, the host stated.
This means that over the past nine months, more than 50 politically motivated criminal cases have been opened in Gomel.
Most of them are for messages on social networks, including in closed chats, such as house chats, the prosecutor added. He gave an example — recently, the Gomel City Department of the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case:
"Four friends communicated among themselves in a chat they created over several years and, touching upon topics not only of personal interest, expressed insults towards current leaders, including those of our state."
According to him, sentences have already been passed.
In addition, Chirikov stated:
"Daily, opening reports on offenses, we see facts of administrative offenses being recorded, the lion's share of which are extremist-oriented."
Apparently, this refers to the so-called "distribution of extremist materials": likes and subscriptions to pages included in the "republican list of extremist materials".
Chirikov added that the prosecutor's office daily monitors the internet to identify new "extremist materials."
