In the USA, a woman grew a giant zucchini weighing as much as an adult
Paramedic Sarah Vitti from Maine, USA, grew a giant zucchini about 120 centimeters long and weighing 77.1 kilograms. Thanks to this, she set two records at once, writes The Washington Post.

The woman named her record-breaking zucchini Secretariat. It became the heaviest zucchini in the USA, surpassing the previous record of 69.2 kilograms. In addition, the fruit exceeded the previous North American record: a zucchini weighing 73.9 kilograms was previously grown in Canada.
Sarah has been growing giant vegetables since 2013. Besides zucchini, she grows pumpkins and tomatoes. Last year, her zucchini weighed about 73.7 kilograms, but it was disqualified due to a small crack. According to competition rules, any cracks or fissures on the fruits can lead to disqualification.
This year, the record was also at risk. In May, Sarah had three zucchinis, but two of them cracked. The third fruit could have suffered due to a strong storm with heavy rainfall. Excess moisture causes a sharp acceleration in zucchini growth, which can lead to them splitting. To protect Secretariat, the woman covered the plant with a tarp, which helped slow its growth.

Now Sarah plans to collect seeds from the record-breaker to grow an even bigger zucchini next year. She will keep some of the seeds for herself and distribute the rest to other gardening enthusiasts.
“For me, the most important thing is to preserve its genetics and spread them around the world,” the woman said.
Next year, Sarah hopes to approach the world record. The heaviest zucchini in history was grown by Briton Vincent Sjodin in 2021: his fruit weighed 116.4 kilograms.
Sarah eventually plans to give Secretariat to pigs as feed.
