Louis XIV has embarked on his first journey, which will take him to two countries: Turkey and Lebanon.
On the morning of November 27, he flew from Rome's Fiumicino airport to Ankara, reports Vatican News.
The papal journey to Turkey will take place from November 27 to 30. The visit is timed to coincide with the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, the first major ecumenical event in the history of Christianity. Its culmination will be a visit to the city of Iznik, ancient Nicaea, where, near the site of archaeological excavations of the ancient basilica of Saint Neophytos, the pontiff will take part in an ecumenical prayer meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, primates and representatives of other Christian churches.
Leo XIV's visit to Lebanon will take place from November 30 to December 2, 2025, under the motto: "Blessed are the peacemakers." The Pope will meet with authorities, clergy, and believers, and will visit the Marian Shrine in Harissa, a Catholic hospital, and will also pray at the site of the ammonium nitrate explosion in the port of Beirut in August 2020, which killed 210 people, injured six thousand, destroyed several hundred buildings, and left 300,000 people homeless.
