The Prosecutor General Andrei Shved has sent to the Supreme Court a criminal case accusing Hans Ziegling, who was a member of the SS and security police, of genocide of the Belarusian people, according to the Prosecutor General's Office Telegram channel.
According to the case files, Siegling directly organized punitive operations and actions during which he committed murders, including mass murders, and the destruction, either completely or partially, of 11 rural settlements.
In particular, he took the lives of at least 1,706 people by shooting them with firearms and hanging them, including at least 238 knowingly young children, as well as people in a helpless state, and knowingly elderly people. He also attempted to murder at least 30 more people and inflicted bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity on individuals, but was unable to complete the criminal acts due to circumstances beyond his control, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.
Siegling was in Greece in the summer and autumn of 1941, and from November 1941 he was in Belarus, organizing anti-partisan operations «Blitz», «Cottbus», «Herman», «Otto», where the civilian population was exterminated.
In the second half, he was the commander of the 30th SS Grenadier Division, then (from February 10 to April 1945) he commanded the 30th SS Division «Belarus» or the 1st Belarusian.
After the war he lived in Bavaria, and died in 1975.
