Roger Allers, an animation director nominated for Oscar and Tony awards and best known for his work on the 1994 animated film «The Lion King», has passed away at the age of 76, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Before creating «The Lion King», Allers participated in the work on a number of other iconic Disney studio animated films, including «Aladdin», «Beauty and the Beast» and «The Little Mermaid». Additionally, he was involved in the development of the 1982 film «Tron» — one of the first major film projects to extensively use computer graphics.
Disney CEO Bob Iger noted that Roger Allers was a creator with a unique vision, and his contribution to the company's legacy will remain in the memory and hearts of future generations.
