According to the Investigative Committee, in March of this year, a resident of Bobruisk purchased a house with a plot near the Berezina River. He lived and worked in Moscow and decided to "beautifully decorate" his new property: he hired a team to demolish old buildings and construct new ones, as well as to improve the territory outside his plot — arranging a lawn, beach, and pier.
The man did not have permission to cut down trees, but ordered all of them to be cut down from the house's fence to the river bank, even though this territory belongs to public lands and SUE "Mikhailovskoye-agro". As a result, 186 trees of various species were destroyed, and the damage caused to the environment was estimated at 12,975 rubles.
The investigation qualified the actions of the 45-year-old resident of Bobruisk under Article 277 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus as illegal felling of trees causing great damage. The man pleaded guilty, compensated for the damage, and asked to be released from criminal liability.
Given that this is a first offense that does not pose a great public danger, as well as voluntary compensation for damages and sincere repentance, the prosecutor allowed the criminal case to be terminated and the culprit to be brought only to administrative responsibility — a fine.
