Belarusbank announced the launch of a new service that will allow customers to exchange currency at any time of day without visiting a bank branch. As reported by the bank, Belarusians will be able to buy and sell foreign currency online at current exchange rates.

The new feature will appear in the internet banking system and will start operating on December 30. In fact, it will be an online exchange office, accessible via a mobile application or the internet.
The exchange is carried out between the client's virtual current accounts. This means that a person needs to have, for example, an account in Belarusian rubles and a separate account in foreign currency to transfer money from one to the other. Such a virtual account can be opened directly in the application, without visiting a bank. If desired, the account can also be topped up via a cash desk.
If the client needs cash currency, it can be withdrawn from ATMs that support relevant operations, or obtained at a bank branch.
Exchange will be available for major foreign currencies: US dollars, euros, Russian rubles, and Chinese yuan. The number of daily operations is not limited, but limits apply per single operation:
- up to 1,000 dollars or euros;
- up to 100,000 Russian rubles;
- up to 10,000 Chinese yuan.
The bank noted that a smartphone with internet access is sufficient to perform the exchange, and all exchange rates will be displayed in the corresponding section of the service.
Incidentally, online currency exchange has long been offered by other major banks in Belarus. Some of them also provide the option to pre-fix a favorable exchange rate.
