The Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed the death of the Russian general; a criminal case has been initiated over the murder of the serviceman.

“According to investigators, a bomb planted under the bottom of a car was detonated on Yasenevaya Street in Moscow on the morning of December 22. As a result of the injuries sustained, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, died,” the Investigative Committee reports.
The investigation is exploring various versions of the murder. One of them is a version related to the organization of the crime by Ukrainian special services, the report states.
The explosion occurred around 7 AM in the courtyard of a residential building on Yasenevaya Street in southern Moscow. Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov got into his Kia Sorento car and started driving. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
Who is Fanil Sarvarov?
General Sarvarov holds a key position in the structure of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense. His department is responsible for organizing large-scale exercises and combat training of units.
He participated in the Ossetian-Ingush conflict, both Chechen wars, and the operation in Syria.
As head of operational training, he is directly responsible for the combat readiness of troops participating in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He is listed in the 'Myrotvorets' database.
A tank officer, graduate of the General Staff Academy.
He received the rank of Lieutenant General in 2024 by decree of Vladimir Putin.
