Two Russian fighter jets destroyed during sabotage operation at military airbase near Lipetsk — GUR

Su-30 and Su-27 aircraft were set on fire inside a hangar after several weeks of preparation, and the damage is estimated at up to $100 million, GUR reports.

Fighter jets on fire

On the night of December 20-21, 2025, a fire broke out at a Russian military airfield near Lipetsk — two Su-30 and Su-27 fighter jets caught fire.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense's GUR (Main Directorate of Intelligence) reports that both aircraft have been put out of action. The approximate total cost of the two damaged fighter jets, which Russia used in the war against Ukraine, could be up to $100 million.

The Su-27 and Su-30 with tail numbers "12" and "82" were successfully burned thanks to careful preparation and professionalism, GUR writes. According to their information, the planning of the special operation at the airfield took two weeks.

The patrol route and the guard duty schedule were studied, which allowed the operatives to covertly penetrate the military facility, damage the Russian aircraft directly in the aviation hangar, and then — "leave the airfield unhindered".
