At the beginning of 2026, the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus started research in the field of molecular biology and cell biotechnology, related to the topic of cloning, reported the National Academy of Sciences.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the state scientific program "Genome, Molecule and Cell", and is therefore funded from the budget.
The scientific work, dedicated to obtaining pluripotent cells and female gametes with a donor nucleus, should form the basis for creating Belarus's own platform for cloning pets.
At the same time, scientists emphasize that their interest is not limited to commercial purposes. In the future, they plan to preserve rare animal breeds, as well as create lines of embryonic stem cells that can be used in scientific and diagnostic research.
The institute has not yet announced when exactly the pet cloning service will appear in Belarus. Its cost is also not named. However, it is known that such services are already available in other countries and are very expensive.
For example, in Russia, the minimum price for cloning a pet is about 4 million Russian rubles (about 52 thousand dollars) — including the collection of biomaterial and delivery of the animal to the owner. Global market leaders — the American company ViaGen Pets and the Chinese Sinogene — charge approximately 50 thousand dollars for dog cloning, 30 to 50 thousand for a cat, and about 85 thousand dollars for a horse.
The animal cloning market is developing rapidly, so it is possible that prices will become lower by the time the Belarusian platform is launched, although there are no guarantees of this yet.
