In 1999, the body of a 19-year-old Minsk resident was found near the village of Vaukavichy. She was raped and murdered.
In the evening of July 3, the body of a girl with signs of strangulation and rape was found on the bank of the Ptich River in the Minsk district. The victim turned out to be a 19-year-old Minsk resident. At that time, the culprit could not be identified. A number of versions were considered, and the girl's close circle of communication was investigated, writes the Investigative Committee.
In 2025, information was received about a group of three people who, in 1999, were relaxing on the river bank and consuming alcohol. The suspects began to be investigated for involvement. At the time the information was received, one of them had died. The other two said they had met the girl and were relaxing by the bank.
"At some point, one of the suspects tried to show attention to the girl, then became insistent, raped, and killed her," said Sergey Yakubel, Deputy Head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, Head of the Criminal Police, at a press conference.
Investigators established that the murder was committed by one person. Two of the group claimed that the crime was committed by their deceased comrade. Later, it turned out that his body had been cremated by relatives. After exhumation, the culprit's genotype was identified, and according to the results of the investigation, it was found that the traces left on the victim's clothes indeed belonged to the deceased. The other two suspects were charged with concealing a crime.
