In Lithuania, a shipment of smuggled cigarettes thrown into the snow from a train was intercepted
In the Vilkaviškis district of Lithuania, border guards detained two local residents suspected of illegal possession of excisable goods. It is believed that a large shipment of cigarettes was thrown from a freight train traveling on the Kybartai — Kena route.

At the scene, Lithuanian border guards found about fifty cardboard boxes near the railway. They contained 25,000 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps. The total value of the seized goods, including all mandatory taxes in Lithuania, exceeds 110,000 euros.

Nearby, on the territory of a homestead, border guards found a Volkswagen Crafter minibus with Lithuanian license plates. It is assumed that this vehicle could have been used for transporting smuggled goods.

The detained men (34 and 45 years old) were initially placed in a temporary detention center, but after interrogation, they were released under a written obligation not to leave their place of residence.
Illegal circulation of excisable goods in Lithuania is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to eight years.
