Massive Protests Against the Government in Prague

On March 21, a rally against the government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš took place in Prague. According to preliminary estimates, more than 200,000 people gathered for it, České Noviny report .

The demonstration "We will not let our future be stolen" in Prague's Letná district was organized by the "Million Moments for Democracy" initiative. People gathered at the rally to protest against the strengthening influence of oligarchs and the authorities' departure from democratic principles. The law on foreign agents also causes outrage – critics consider it similar to the Russian one. If the law is adopted, it will require many legal entities and individuals who have connections with foreign countries or receive foreign funding to register. Non-compliance will result in large fines.

The opposition also criticizes the government's plans to change the financing of state media, reduce defense spending, and soften rhetoric towards Russia.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is a billionaire, leader of the right-wing populist ANO party. Two right-wing populist forces joined the coalition with his ANO party: "Freedom and Direct Democracy," which campaigned on criticizing migration, including from Ukraine, and "Motorists for Themselves," which opposes the "green agenda."
