Goalkeeper of FC "Vitebsk" Surprised Citizens with an Unusual Resemblance to Marc Chagall PHOTOS

Goalkeeper of FC "Vitebsk" Ivan Novichkov unexpectedly became an object of attention not only for football fans. During a photoshoot for the team's new kit, citizens noticed his striking resemblance to the world-renowned artist, a native of Vitebsk, Marc Chagall, writes the publication "Vitbichi".

After the footballer's photos appeared on social media, commentators began comparing him to the artist. Some even joked that Novichkov might be a distant relative of Chagall or that the "soul" of the famous countryman had "transmigrated" into him.

Interestingly, the resemblance was not limited to facial features. Ivan Novichkov has the same height which, according to contemporaries' recollections, young Marc Chagall had.

To verify the strength of the resemblance, the footballer was invited to the Vitebsk Art Museum, where Chagall's famous painting "Over the Town" is currently exhibited. The visitors' reaction was very vivid: many couldn't believe their eyes, and some suggested making Novichkov a living symbol of Vitebsk and even casting him as Chagall in a movie.

Despite the external resemblance, kinship between the footballer and the artist, however, was not confirmed. Ivan stated that he comes from a very ordinary family. He started playing football thanks to his father: first as a forward, and after he grew significantly, he transitioned to the goalkeeper position.

Novichkov began his career in Vitebsk, then played on loan for Gomel's "Lokomotiv" and "Smorgon", and now he is playing again for his home club.

The footballer himself initially didn't believe in his resemblance to Chagall, but over time he heard it more and more often from those around him. After visiting the museum, he admitted that he had previously had little interest in painting, but now he wants to learn more about the work of his famous countryman. Ivan rated his resemblance to the artist at 7 out of 10.

Novichkov can be seen as part of "Vitebsk" until the end of the current football season. And the painting "Over the Town" will leave Vitebsk on September 14, so citizens still have the opportunity to compare the famous canvas and its unusually similar author, their countryman.
