Political prisoner, photo illustrator Natallia Levaya, is free. She is pregnant and due to give birth in March

The woman was arrested at the border after returning to Belarus.

Political prisoner and photo illustrator from Brest, Natallia Levaya, has been behind bars since May 2024. She was returning from Poland when she was detained for making donations.

Colleagues tried to dissuade the woman from returning home, but she said she deeply missed her homeland and had already paid multiple times the amount of her donations for 2020 and had a document from the KGB.

Natallia was sentenced to six years in a general-regime penal colony. Additionally, she was fined 1000 basic units (40,000 rubles) — almost the same amount Natallia had donated to initiatives and funds.

Natallia Levaya was found guilty under the following articles of the Criminal Code: Part 2 of Art. 361‑1 (financing extremist activity), Part 2 of Art. 361‑3 (financing participation in military actions on the territory of a foreign state), and Art. 361‑2 (financing the activities of an extremist formation).

In the colony, after a meeting with her husband, the woman became pregnant.

«More than anyone today, I am worried about Natasha Levaya. A miracle happened: after a meeting with her husband, she became pregnant. Before this, the couple had not been able to have children for a long time. Natasha is due to give birth approximately in March. I really wish this could happen under different circumstances,» wrote former political prisoner and editor-in-chief of Tut.by, Maryna Zolatava, on social media.
