"I will never return there": Kaveryn on Belarus

Kanstantsin Kaveryn, host of the morning show "Obychnoye Utro," revealed in a new episode of TOK why he does not want to return to Belarus, if he misses Minsk, and where he would still like to visit.

"I don't want to return. And I will never return there. Because I don't want to walk the same streets with those ghouls who beat, assaulted, and raped people.

I don't want to walk the same streets, sit at a neighboring table in a cafe with people who threatened to take children away from their parents. I don't want that," Kaveryn stated in the conversation.

Nastassia Rouda noted that such people are an absolute minority and one might never even encounter them.

"Well, no. I don't want all of that. I don't want to search, to ask. So, we sit down in a cafe in the evening, and at the next table sit two shaven-headed guys. I don't want [to ask]: 'Guys, did you serve in OMON, or not?' I don't want that, I simply don't want that.

It will be easier for them to live without me, and it will be easier for me to live without them," Kaveryn replied.

Kanstantsin assured that he has firmly decided this question for himself. If an opportunity arises, he will come to Belarus to visit cemeteries. But he doesn't think such an opportunity will arise soon.

"If I live to see that opportunity, of course, I will go. But no... I will live here."

When asked by Rouda if he misses Minsk, Kaveryn replied that he does not.

"No, honestly. Not Minsk. I miss my small town Hlybokaye."

According to Kanstantsin, he would visit the town where he grew up "for a couple of days, for a week."

"Spend a vacation — and that's it. And back," Kaveryn assured.

Kanstantsin Kaveryn is a journalist and showman. Previously, he hosted entertainment programs on BT, worked as a presenter on Unistar radio, and as an announcer at "Borisov-Arena." In 2020, he condemned the violence of security forces and torture at Akrestsina, expressing his admiration for the resilience of Belarusian women. Due to his political stance, Kaveryn lost his job at the radio station and BATE. In the summer of 2022, he moved with his family from Belarus to Warsaw, where he now lives and hosts the YouTube show "Obychnoye Utro."
