In the "Vasilishki" farm of Shchuchyn district, real corn "jungles" have grown — the height of individual stalks reaches almost 4 meters. For agrarians, this is a good result, because the taller the corn, the more silage — juicy feed for livestock — can be obtained from one field, reports CTV channel.

Corn for silage begins to be harvested when the plant just starts to turn yellow. Readiness can be checked by the grain: at the right moment, its middle should be milky. It is this corn that provides the highest quality silage.
The "Vasilishki" farm allocated 2.2 thousand hectares for fodder harvesting. This area should be enough to provide feed for a large herd — about 17 thousand cows.
During harvesting, the stalks are chopped into pieces 25-30 centimeters long. The lower, thicker part of the stalk is not used, as it produces lower quality silage.
Daily, the farm prepares about 1300 tons of silage. In October, they will start harvesting corn for grain here.
