«I don't understand why I'm doing this.» A Belarusian in China had to inflate a slaughtered pig with a hand pump

Belarusian Nastassia (known in China by the name Namei) married a resident of China's Hunan province in 2020 and stayed to live there. Their couple at one time became popular on Chinese social media thanks to wedding photos that showed a significant height difference. Nastassia's height is 176 cm, while her husband's is 158 cm.

On their YouTube channel, the international family recently published a video of Nastassia's father's visit to China, where he decided to help local relatives with pig slaughter.

The family arrived at a farm where black pigs are raised. They are popular in this part of China — pigs are kept for almost two years until they reach a weight of 200-250 kg (whereas in Belarus, white pig breeds are prevalent, raised for about a year to a weight of 160 kg). The feed composition — potatoes and flour — turned out to be almost the same as in Belarus.

A particular difficulty was loading the chosen animal. The video shows several men, including Nastassia's father, trying to pull a massive pig into a cage on a trailer. After a strenuous struggle, the pig was finally loaded and transported to the slaughter site.

Once slaughtered, a stage began that caused the Belarusian guest the most surprise — inflating the carcass with air using a pump used for bicycle tires.

«But why? What for? I don't understand,» the man asked.

They jokingly explained to him that it was to make the animal appear larger. In reality, the air stretches the skin, which helps to remove the coarse black bristles more easily and quickly.

The differences in technology didn't end there. Instead of the fire-singeing familiar to Belarusians, the Chinese used hot water and scrapers. Nastassia's father actively helped clean the skin, noting that at home, they would use a scythe for this.

The next step was preparation for butchering. The carcass was tied by its hind legs to ordinary wooden ladders, and then, together with them, stood upright, leaning against a wall.

Nastassia's father also actively participated in the butchering process. According to the man, this work is well known to him: in his life, he has slaughtered and butchered two dozen pigs.

«The main thing is not to cut the intestines, so there's no smell,» he commented on the process.

In the end, the Belarusian, wiping his hands, sniffed the fresh meat:

«It doesn't smell like anything. This indicates that the meat and lard are very tasty, [because the animal] was fed natural products.»
