Minister of Information Marat Marakau addressed the language issue on STB.
«You yourself see that it is precisely around language problems that we are breaking spears, so to speak. And there are two absolutely diametrically opposite groups. Some who say that the Belarusian language is being suppressed in the country, others who shout that the Russian language is being suppressed.
Both groups, they do not work for the benefit of the state. Both groups, so to speak, are very close to being declared as manifesting extremist ideas, because they are trying to sow discord in our society. And both groups must be fought against.»
Marakau added that it is unacceptable to allow division based on language.
«It was precisely on this basis that serious crimes were committed in many countries, precisely on national and linguistic grounds. (…) Therefore, in this regard, the ministry's position will be very strict,» Marakau noted.
