There have been previous cases where explosives were found, but this is the first time it was found inside the body itself. Viktor Bachynsky, head of the regional forensic medical examination bureau, told Suspilne.
According to him, previously, during the examination of bodies transferred as part of exchanges, explosive devices were sometimes found in pockets. However, this time the grenade was found directly inside the body of the deceased.
It went through the abdominal cavity, passed through the body, but did not explode — it remained under the right thigh, the expert said.
"When the expert began the autopsy of the deceased's body, performed an autopsy of the cranial cavity, thoracic cavity, reached the limb, and began to cut it, he found an unexploded grenade under the skin," says Bachynsky.
After this, all employees were evacuated from the morgue, and pyrotechnicians were called to remove the grenade.
"It was taken to the landfill and detonated there, as it could have exploded in the morgue. Therefore, due to such incidents, pyrotechnicians from the State Emergency Service work first, and only then do we. This is a very serious approach, but it turned out that they did not immediately determine that such an explosive device was inside the body of the deceased," says Bachynsky.
On February 26, 1000 bodies of the deceased were returned to Ukraine, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen.
