The Iranian agency Tasnim, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported with reference to sources about the closure of the strait. At the same time, the British maritime trade security organization noted that a number of vessels received messages about the cessation of movement through this section.
There have been no official statements from Iranian authorities about the closure of the strait yet.
According to Reuters, satellite images show that more and more vessels are concentrating near major ports in the region, including near Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, instead of moving towards the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important maritime trade routes in the world: about a fifth of global oil and gas supplies are transported through it.
On February 28, US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a large-scale operation against Iran; together with the US, strikes were also carried out by Israel. He also called on Iranians to seize the moment for changes in the country. Iranian retaliatory strikes affected a number of states in the region where American military bases are located.
