"This is a Belarusian woman. She lives in a city. Her average age is 44 years. She is well-educated, with higher or secondary education. She marries for the first time at 27 years old and gives birth to a child approximately a year later. Overall, as of 2024, 4.9 million women resided in our country, or 54% of the total population. The vast majority of them lived in urban areas — almost 80%," said Natalia Tarasyuk, Deputy Chair of the National Statistical Committee.
On average, there are 1167 women per 1000 men in the country. However, the gender balance looks different in different age categories. While in younger ages there are 957 girls per 1000 young men, in older ages, there are twice as many women as men.
In 2025, 52 thousand marriages were concluded in the country.
"The average age of women entering their first marriage was, as I said, 27 years. However, age is not an obstacle to creating a family union, and an interesting trend has emerged in recent years. Women aged 65 and older are increasingly forming families. Thus, in 2025, 713 women got married, which is almost 13% more than in the previous year. Furthermore, 44 women entered marriage for the first time," Tarasyuk added.
According to her, the level of female employment in Belarus is higher than male employment. It stands at 65%, and for women of working age — 86%.
