Belarusian musician lost his passport in Warsaw but found another — belonging to an unknown woman. And she helped him find his own

Belarusian musician, ethnographer, and art manager Siarzhuk Douhushau lost his passport in Warsaw. He rushed to look for it — and found it. But not his own, rather one belonging to a Belarusian woman. Soon after, she informed Siarzhuk that she had found his document. The musician shared the incredible story on Facebook and told the details to the Most publication.

Douhushau reported the loss of his passport on March 16. He was receiving a new residence permit card at the Office for Foreigners in Warsaw. From there, he went on business to the administration of the Warsaw district of Białołęka. It was there that he noticed that he had somehow lost his Belarusian passport. He searched the entire car, rummaged through his pockets — in vain. He decided to return to the Office for Foreigners in Warsaw.

"I'd been there several times already, searched everywhere — nothing. It's a shame, it was still valid for another year. I don't know what to do, I need to go to Lithuania for performances on Friday," he complained.

Gradually, the musician began to realize that the tour would probably have to be canceled.

"Hopeless. I'm saying goodbye to the past, opening a new portal to future European passport acquisition," he wrote in response to a question about the document.

"This is my quest: I need to find three lost Belarusian passports in Warsaw, then mine will return"

On March 17, Douhushau went to the district administration again. While waiting for documents, he heard that some passport had been found in the state office. He immediately thought it was his. But no luck: the passport, though Belarusian, belonged to a woman.

Then the Belarusian decided to help his compatriot — he wrote a post in a large Facebook group "Belarusians in Warsaw". The woman responded. It turned out that for her, too, the loss of the passport was painful: she had to fly to Luxembourg.

"Perhaps this is my quest: I need to find three lost Belarusian passports in Warsaw, then mine will return," he joked.

But fate's quest turned out to be a little easier.

The woman couldn't pick up the passport that same day, so she came on March 18. And she found in the administration not only her passport but also Douhushau's. She already knew whom to call.

Now the musician admits that he has learned a lesson. And although it wasn't necessary to help search for three passports, the interviewee says he will now do good deeds.

"Watch your documents, never lose your passports. Especially Belarusian ones," he advises, implying that for many Belarusians, obtaining a new passport is currently impossible.
