In Belarus, at the beginning of 2026, the share of unprofitable organizations sharply increased. According to Belstat data, by the end of 2025, 13.3% of enterprises operated at a loss, but already in January 2026, their share jumped to 31.9%, writes Thinktanks.pro.

For comparison: in January last year, the indicator was 25.1%. This means that over the year it increased by 6.8 percentage points.
At the same time, throughout 2025, the situation gradually improved. After 25.1% in January, the share of unprofitable organizations decreased almost all year: to 20% in spring, 16.2% in summer, and 13.3% by December. However, the new year began with a sharp deterioration in the financial results of enterprises.
The highest share of unprofitable companies in January 2026 was recorded in Minsk (36.9%). Followed by:
- Minsk region — 32.1%;
- Grodno region — 31.7%;
- Brest region — 30.8% (also above the average level).
The lowest share of unprofitable organizations among the mentioned regions is in the Vitebsk region, where it amounted to 25.5%.
If we look not only at the number of problematic enterprises but also at the size of their losses, the most difficult situation developed in the Gomel region. There, the average net loss per unprofitable organization amounted to 487.6 thousand rubles. Followed by Minsk (427.3 thousand rubles) and Minsk region (394.5 thousand rubles).
The average indicator for Belarus is 380.0 thousand rubles. The lowest losses were among enterprises in the following regions:
- Grodno — 332.4 thousand rubles;
- Mogilev — 327.9 thousand rubles;
- Vitebsk — 295.0 thousand rubles;
- Brest — 276.4 thousand rubles.
