In Belarus, there are no strict requirements for the number of people who must live in a settlement for it to be granted city status. There are tiny cities, and there are also villages with 20,000 people. Changes in status are rare and do not happen automatically, even if the population dwindles.
"Naša Niva" has compiled a list of the smallest Belarusian cities — 11 cities were counted, in each of which the population does not even reach 7000 people.
The fewest people live in Dzisna, in the Miory district of the Viciebsk region — only 1339 people as of the beginning of 2026.
At the beginning of the last century, more than 9000 people lived here, but the situation has changed greatly by our days.
The title of the smallest city in Belarus for Dzisna is a tourist brand.

In second place is Kosava (1770 people) in the Ivacevičy district. The city is primarily known for the Pułascy Palace and the Kościuszko Museum, which are located nearby.

In third place is Turaŭ (2726 inhabitants) in the Žytkavičy district — also a popular tourist destination.
Slightly more inhabitants are in Vasilevičy, an oil center of Belarus, located in the Rečyca district — 3089 people.
Next, with a considerable lead in increasing order, comes Davyd-Haradok (5634) in the Stolin district.
And after it, all district centers — Sviesłač (5709), Vierchniadzvinsk (6679), Iŭje (6784), Miadzieł (6822), Sianno (6874), and Kruhłaje (6911).
