DPRK state media reported successful tests and trials of electromagnetic weapon systems and carbon bombs. Kim Jong Un called these developments "special means of strategic character."
The tests lasted three days — from Monday to Wednesday. Pyongyang openly spoke for the first time about using energy to disable technology, notes Bloomberg.
Carbon fiber bombs, also known as "blackout bombs," are designed to short-circuit power grids. They plunge entire regions into darkness. Electromagnetic weapons, also tested by the DPRK, operate differently — they burn out microchips and communication devices.
Kim Jong Un now demands that the military combine them with other types of weapons. Pyongyang aims to gain an advantage in digital warfare.
In addition to secret technologies, the DPRK tested the combat power of its ballistic missiles. Tactical cluster warheads were tested. According to DPRK state media, the destruction area of the warheads is 6.5–7 hectares.
Bloomberg notes that South Korean military indeed recorded several ballistic missile launches in the waters off the DPRK's eastern coast. One of the launches might have been unsuccessful.
