Human rights defenders: 12 women detained in Novopolotsk in connection with cultural initiatives
Some were taken to the pre-trial detention center in Vitebsk.

On April 23, at least 12 women were detained in the city. Searches were carried out at everyone's homes, several people were immediately taken to the Vitebsk pre-trial detention center, and the rest were interrogated in Novopolotsk. Of these, 8 people were released the same evening, writes "Viasna".
Subscriptions to "extremist" information resources were found with one of the detainees; she was held for three days and fined last Monday. It is known that as of yesterday, at least two women remained behind bars.
All women signed non-disclosure agreements and pledges not to leave the country.
According to several other sources, the detentions were related to cultural projects and were a consequence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs declaring a number of cultural initiatives an "extremist formation" on April 9. This was announced only on April 24, but the detentions took place the day before. Moreover, not only in Novopolotsk: it is known that three women were detained in Borisov on April 23, and several more in Slonim, Brest, and Zhodino.
