Amsterdam became the world's first capital to ban advertising of meat products, as well as goods and services that use fossil fuels in their production, writes the BBC.
From May 1, such advertising is prohibited in public places in the city, including billboards, public transport, and road junctions. The measure does not apply to private shops, print, and digital media.
In January, the city council passed the corresponding ban, voting 27 to 17. The ban applies to goods and services associated with high carbon emissions: air travel, gasoline and diesel cars, gas heating contracts, as well as meat products, such as fast-food burgers.
