Russian government proposed to revise the rules for the legalization of Russians in Belarus
Belarus and Russia plan to reduce the term for reviewing applications for permanent residency for citizens of both countries — from three months to two. The Russian government sent such a proposal to Vladimir Putin. To do this, they want to change the agreement between Minsk and Moscow on the freedom of movement of citizens, which has been in force since 2006, TASS reports.

In addition to shortening the terms, they also plan to clarify the rules for staying in the country without registration. As before, Belarusians and Russians will be able to stay on the territory of the other country without registration for up to 90 days. But if a person wants to stay for a longer period, they will need to register with the relevant authorities.
The last changes to this agreement were made back in 2015.
Citizens of Russia continue to actively buy real estate in Belarus. For example, in March 2026, Russians acquired 126 real estate objects in Minsk — not only apartments, but also houses, garages, parking spaces, and commercial premises.
In total, over 3.5 thousand real estate objects were sold in the capital that month, and about 3.6% of purchases were made by citizens of Russia.
