François Hollande Considers Return to French Presidency

The former president of France, once dubbed the most unpopular head of state in the history of the Fifth Republic, has hinted at running in the 2027 presidential elections.

In 2017, he left the Élysée Palace with an approval rating of just 4%, but now he is again signaling a return, writes Bild.

«I am preparing. Something enormous, of historical significance, is at stake in the presidential elections. For France, but not only for France,» Hollande told Marianne magazine.

Hollande's political prospects currently look weak: according to polls, less than 10% of voters support him.

Meanwhile, the right-wing National Rally confidently leads: both Marine Le Pen and party leader Jordan Bardella score over 30%. Moreover, it was during Hollande's presidency that the far-right definitively became one of France's main political forces.

Skepticism exists even within the Socialist Party, of which Hollande remains a member. One of its representatives anonymously told Marianne that they «do not believe in Hollande's return.» Another admitted that publicly supporting the former president remains unpopular.

Hollande himself banks on his main argument — experience: five years in the Élysée Palace, international summits, and managing the country during crises.
