Polish President Proposed Stripping Zelenskyy of Order Because UAF Unit Was Named After UPA
On May 26, the President of Ukraine signed a decree which conferred the honorary title «Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)» to the separate special operations center «North» of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Karol Nawrocki stated that he received Zelenskyy's decision «with great sadness», because «this is not how relations between nations are built». According to the Polish President, the glorification of UPA «gave Russian propaganda many pretexts and opportunities for disinformation».
«Unfortunately, this unwise, or ill-thought-out, and I hope, not intentional, decision led to the fact that emotions in Poland regarding the Ukrainian president's policy became what they became», he said.
Nawrocki proposed stripping Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Polish Order of the White Eagle — Poland's highest state award. A meeting where this issue will be raised will take place on June 8, writes Meduza.
