Russia's Supreme Court removed the 'Yabloko' party from Duma elections — the only anti-war party
Vyacheslav Kirillov, a judge of the Russian Supreme Court, satisfied the lawsuit filed by the 'Rodina' party. 'Yabloko' stated that they will appeal this decision, according to 'Meduza'.
During the session, people gathered near the court building to support 'Yabloko'. After the decision was announced, they began to chant: 'Shame!'
'Yabloko' was called the only party among those initially admitted to the elections and included in the ballots that advocates for the earliest possible end to Russia's war against Ukraine.
The lawsuit to remove the party from the elections was filed by the 'Rodina' party. Its representatives claimed that in its election campaign, 'Yabloko' violates copyright and uses slogans which they called 'extremist'.
During the court hearing, a representative of the Central Election Commission also referred to information from Rosfinmonitoring about 'Yabloko' allegedly receiving foreign funding.
The party itself explained the origin of these funds by the sale of foreign shares. According to 'Yabloko' representatives, the party owned such assets and, in accordance with the law, had to divest them before the elections.
